The Cookie Sale
For over 70 years, Girl Scout cookie activities have helped girls learn invaluable skills, such as decision-making, money management, and delivering on a promise. These activities are directly related to our mission of helping all girls realize their full potential and become strong, confident, and resourceful citizens.

Each girl's participation in cookie activities is voluntary. Most Brownie, Junior, Cadette, and Senior Girl Scouts enjoy the experience and look forward to taking part in these fun activities each year. Daisy Girl Scouts must wait until they are Brownie Scouts to sell Girl Scout Cookies. Adults must monitor, supervise, and guide the sale activities of all age levels, and girls always use the buddy system.

Buying Cookies
Girl Scout Cookies are sold annually during the month of February. Tombigbee Girl Scout Council sells cookies for $3.50 a box and is supplied by ABC Bakers, one of three official cookie bakers nationwide. When buying cookies from a Girl Scout selling door-to-door, payment is due on delivery. Click on an image below to read a short description of our eight types of cookies:

Benefits to Girl Scouts
Selling Girl Scout cookies is a fun program activity that teaches girls how to set realistic goals, work as a team, manage money, and be entrepreneurs. Each troop or group that sells cookies earns money for its treasury and plans how to spend that money to achieve its goals. The proceeds are used for field trips, service projects, and other activities. In addition, Girl Scouts can earn age-appropriate proficiency awards as part of their experience with cookie activities.

On a broader scope, girls benefit by participating in a wide range of Girl Scout activities made possible by the local council with proceeds from its annual cookie activities. "Cookie proceeds" helps to provide the financial assistance needed to make Girl Scouting available for all girls, to fund special events and other program opportunities, to keep event/camp fees for all members to a minimum, to improve and maintain camp and other activity sites, and to recruit and train volunteer leaders.

Booth Sales and Cookie Shop

Watch for information regarding Girl Scout Booth Sale locations in your local area. You may find Girl Scouts Troops selling cookies from a booth at your local shopping center, Wal-Mart and other high traffic areas.

The Girl Scout Cookie Sale Program

The selling of Girl Scout Cookies or other council-sponsored products is a valuable program experience for girls. These activities may not be conducted by adults. Adults serve in a supporting roles for girls but should not assume sole responsibility for sales.

Parents and guardians grant permission and are informed about the girls' whereabouts when they are engaged in product sales.

Girls should be identifiable as Girl Scouts by wearing a Membership Pin or uniform or carrying a membership card.

Adults must monitor, supervise, and guide the sale activities of all age levels. Brownie and Junior Girl Scouts must be accompanied by an adult. Cadette and Senior Girl Scouts who participate in door-to-door sales must be supervised by an adult. Girls always use the buddy system.

Money due for sold products should be collected when the products are delivered or as directed by the Girl Scout council.

Girls may not engage in selling Girl Scout Cookies or other products approved for council-sponsored product sales on the Internet. Girls can use e-mail to let family and friends know about the sale.

Procedures for conducting council-sponsored product sales are determined by the council. The council provides training on the procedures to follow during the sale to all participants.

All girl members may participate in council-sponsored product sales activities. The council sets the guidelines for participation and determines how the proceeds and recognition system will be managed. The council retains some of the proceeds resulting from product sales to support program activities and participation of all registered Girl Scouts.

The income from product sales does not become the property of individual girl members.
